For eight years I worked with land managers to improve their gardens, parks, sports fields, and farms. Most managers had two things in common – they took excellent care of the plants above the ground, but knew little about the soil beneath.
Hence Gardening 101: Soil – The Foundation was born. Good gardening starts in the soil. You wouldn’t build a house on a poor foundation, and neither should you garden on poor soil.
This book presents all the information I have presented to land mangers over the years. You will learn the same tests I use when assessing and soil, how to identify problems, and how to fix them.
Gardening 101 will teach you about:
- pH and salinity
- Plant nutrition
- Organic matter
- Soil texture and structure
- Life in the soil (worms, bugs, microbes)
- Worm farms
- Composting
- Assessing your soil
- Preparing your garden for planting
- Water wise gardening
